The welcome return of Liz McDonald behind the bar of the Rovers Return has got me thinking about Vernon Tomlin. Vernon was a great character, a bone idle potman, of which the Rovers has a rich tradition (see Jack Duckworth RIP). Vernon singing "(Don't Fall Into) The Mason's Arms" to a bemused Liz in the back of the pub has to be in my Top 10 Corrie scenes of all time.
I covered the song once. Check out my version below, with accompanying photo of me with Ian Reddington, the actor who played Vernon. I happened to bump into him at Glastonbury 2008. As Vernon would say, "fate decides".
